In 2017, the Kenyan high court ruled over a multibillion shilling geothermal power accessories tender in favor of Rentco East Africa who were bidding against Russian firm OJSC Power Machines Limited.
With the objective of improving severely stretched power supplies in Kenya’s urban regions, the Kenya Electricity Generating Company Ltd (KenGen) was looking to meet the demand for electricity power.
The three-judge bench comprising of justices Asike Makhandia, William Ouko and Agnes Murgor stated that the analyzed proposal submitted by Rentco East Africa, Lantech Africa and Toshiba Corporation presented the highest net output of 58.42MW compared to 50.5MW submitted by OJSC Power Machines.
From the technical and financial analysis of the Rentco proposal, it was also found that KenGen stood to gain a revenue of $785,000 which was the highest compared to the proposal presented by OJSC.
